Tumor cells According to an article, published by Bloomberg-Australia scientists of The Cancer Institute of New Jersey in New Brunswick (USA)  and Prinston University (USA) discovered a new gene, called metadherin, which is a main suspect in being responsible for breast cancer becoming metastatic.

Apparently this gene exists in every cell of our bodies.  Any human cells  attacked by a cancerous tumors use this gene to multiply (“over-express”).

Dr. Michael Reiss who was interviewed for the story indicated that the discovery of this gene will allow a development of new drug(s) inhibiting metastasis.

According to Yibin Kang, an assistant professor of molecular biology at Princeton , some pharmaceutical companies already expressed an interest in developing such a drug.

Stopping the spread of cancer cells throughout the patient body is a significant step into curring the illness.
